“Love for the Unloved” is a project which explores the topic of animals living in the city, that are often mistreated, disliked, and abused by humankind. These creatures are frequently labelled dirty, ugly, annoying or referred to as “pests”. Said actions often lead to cruelty, abuse and neglect. Despite their negative reputation, many of these animals are vital to our ecosystems, helping with actual pest control, spreading seeds, and maintaining a healthy biome (Forest Preserve District of Will County, 2018). This project aims to challenge common stereotypes and encourage a more informed and compassionate view of these animals. The information and goal above is achieved through the form of art; specifically, products with cute and colourful prints, featuring a set of animals which deal with the problems mentioned above. Through the appealing designs, I hope to inspire empathy and push the people to see the “cute”, instead of just the ugly and the gross.
